The Guy Sperry Award
Each year, the Bozeman Area Chamber of Commerce selects an individual to receive the prestigious Guy Sperry Award. The award recognizes a community member who has contributed significantly to the Bozeman community and to the free enterprise system. 2011 will mark the 30th anniversary of the award.
This is the Chamber's highest recognition of service to the community and excellence in business. The selection is based on community and business dedication and service, as exemplified by Guy Sperry's 20 years of service as the executive vice president of the Bozeman Chamber of Commerce. The award presentation is made each January at the Chamber’s annual meeting.
Who Was Guy Sperry?
Guy Sperry, who was well known throughout Montana and beyond as “Mr. Bozeman,” served for 20 years as the Chamber executive as he shared, and at times imposed, his enthusiasm for following his motto: “Build a Better Bozeman.” He earnestly wanted everyone who benefited from living in our beautiful valley to join hands in the community efforts to further enhance opportunities for everyone. His oft-repeated admonition was that “those of us who enjoy the benefits should not just pick up the apples, but should help to shake the trees!” That meant Chamber of Commerce membership and active participation. Guy Sperry led by example!
